On Saturday, November 5, Worthy Grand Master Derek Marchman attended Cocktails with Canines –  an annual event hosted by Veterans Moving Forward where they share stories of the veterans they serve, the dogs they train, and the volunteers who make it all possible.
Veterans Moving Forward is an organization that trains canine therapy and assistance dogs, and then provides them at no cost to veterans with physical and mental health challenges. Veterans Moving Forward (VMF) makes a meaningful difference in the lives of disabled veterans throughout the Nation. Harnessing the collaborative efforts of dedicated volunteers, donors, and strategic partners, VMF’s highly trained assistance dogs are instrumental in helping disabled veterans achieve increased safety and independence and function more effectively within their homes and communities.
Highlights from the evening included a presentation about VMF, check presentation by others supporters of VMF such as defense contractors, and then VMF showed the audience what they were all about as they gave a veteran suffering from PTSD his new service dog. Those in attendance included both active and retired members of the armed services, members of VMF, and other donors.
Of those who contributed that night, Kappa Sigma’s gift was the largest. We have now totaled $130,000 over the past three years! We are so happy to support such a great cause through our Military Heroes Campaign and hope to continue to do so for many years to come.
Military Heroes Campaign: Created in 2007, the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign honors and aids thousands of military veterans and their families in communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Since its inception, the campaign has donated over $1,000,000 to non-profit organizations who advocate on behalf of servicemen and women and those wounded in combat.
