Twelve years have passed since terrorists attacked the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001, but the images of that fateful day are still engrained in the memories of all who witnessed it. Many lost loved ones on 9/11, and continue to lose them as the country fights terrorism around the world. Kappa Sigma lost six Brothers in the attack on the World Trade Center in New York on 9/11:
- Fredric Neal Gabler (Alpha-Kappa, Cornell University, ’90)
- Jeffrey Brian Gardner (Gamma-Upsilon, Rutgers, ’84)
- Andrew Harold Golkin (Delta-Phi, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, ’91)
- Richard Blaine Madden (Gamma-Xi, Denison University, ’85)
- James Robert Paul (Beta-Nu, University of Kentucky, ’62)
- William Peter Tselepis (Alpha-Gamma, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, ’88)
In the days following the attacks, the Fraternity flew an American flag in front of the headquarters and left it there for six months to commemorate the six Brothers who lost their lives. The International Headquarters in Charlottesville, Va., continues to display this flag, a plaque, and an oil painting just outside of the entrance to the model chapter room to memorialize these fallen Brothers.
Kappa Sigma will always remember the lives lost on 9/11, including our six Brothers, and all who have been touched because of that day. AEKDB
