CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – August 31, 2017 – As Hurricane Harvey continues to impact the lives of those in the Greater Houston Area, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity has chosen to take decisive action to help those in need. The Supreme Executive Committee (board of directors) has voted on behalf of the more than 325 chapters and colonies of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity to commit $50,000 to help those in need.
This donation will be made from Kappa Sigma’s A Greater Cause Foundation to assist both the American Red Cross Service to Armed Forces and Texas National Guard Family Support Foundation.
It is the hope of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity that this donation will help both the members of our fraternity as well as members of the broader community in their time of need. As lives have been impacted by this catastrophic event, it is Kappa Sigma’s desire to continue to make a positive impact for years to come.
Kappa Sigma’s Worthy Grand Master (President) Toby H. Taylor said, “We are saddened to hear of the tragedy in Houston. We hope this donation will help those who have been impacted by this catastrophic event in their time of need. Giving back is fundamental to all we do as Kappa Sigmas. Service is one of Kappa Sigma’s four pillars and our primary purpose is to give back and help those in our communities.”
Kappa Sigma is committed to making a difference in the lives of others. It is this commitment that has provided the inspiration and vision for A Greater Cause – the Fraternity’s bold initiative to promote volunteerism, citizenship, and service to the community. During the 2015-2017 biennium, Kappa Sigma members raised more than $6.7 million for charity and volunteered over 1.4 million hours of community service as part of the initiative.
