The Xi-Beta Chapter of Kappa Sigma recently raised over $13,500 during Northeastern University’s Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an organized community fundraising event which raises money for the American Cancer Society. Kappa Sigma brothers participated in booths and activities to support other student groups and organizations as they continued to raise money throughout the event. A number of brothers also walked the indoor track in support of cancer research and awareness throughout the night. In total over 100 brothers participated in the event.
Amongst Kappa Kappa Gamma, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Delta Tau Delta, Kappa Sigma’s Xi-Beta Chapter was one of the top 4 contributors of the 153 total teams that participated. Relay for Life is a great way for the entire campus to come together to support a community with so many individuals who are affected by this disease.
Brother Alex Bonacum said, “as the Grand Master of the Chapter that originally worked with American Cancer Society to co-host and bring Relay for Life to Northeastern’s Campus back in 2010, I can’t even begin to describe how incredibly proud and grateful I am of each and every brother and alumnus that worked with and supported the Xi-Beta team which raised over $13,500 this year. This more than doubled our previous record.”
He went on to say, “this money will go to an organization that hits close to home to so many brothers in the Chapter and members of our Community. Friday, March 18, 2016, will forever mark a powerful and lasting standard for philanthropic excellence within the Xi-Beta Chapter of Kappa Sigma, the Interfraternity Council, Northeastern’s Fraternity and Sorority Life, and our University’s Community as a whole. It’s events and moments like these that make me truly understand the impact fraternities and sororities can have when we all come together for A Greater Cause.”
Kappa Sigma is committed to making a difference in the lives of others. It is this commitment that has provided the inspiration and vision for A Greater Cause – the Fraternity’s bold initiative to promote volunteerism, citizenship and service to the community. During the 2013-2015 biennium, Kappa Sigma members raised more than $5.8 million for charity and volunteered over 1.1 million hours of community service as part of the initiative.
