On October 2-5, 2014, the Xi-Epsilon Chapter at Thiel College in Greenville, Penn., will host its 20th annual See-Saw-A-Thon in order to raise money for Jillian, a nine-year-old who has ependymoma, a form of brain cancer. The proceeds donated to the See-Saw-A-Thon will help with medical expenses that Jillian faces during treatment. Members of the chapter, and volunteers, will ride a giant see-saw for 72 hours to raise the funds and awareness for Jillian.
Childhood ependymoma is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord.
“Our annual See-Saw-a-Thon is a time honored tradition here at Thiel College. It brings together both the campus of Thiel College and the community of Greenville, Pennsylvania to help patients with cancer,” said Xi-Epsilon Grand Master Andy Gaul. “Riding a 25-foot See-Saw for 72 hours straight may not seem like the most fun activity, but being able to give back to the community in such a way that benefits those in need is beyond what some would call ‘rewarding.'”
In the past five years, the event has raised nearly $18,000 for children fighting cancer. To donate in support of Jillian, visit seesawathon.com. All donation sizes are welcomed and encouraged.
“Our goal is to raise over $6,500 in our 72 hours of riding. Local businesses have already contributed to the cause, and all of the sororities on campus have pledged to help,” said Brother Gaul. “Together, as a campus, and a community, we are going to make the difference for a 9 year old girl with brain cancer. Because in the end, it’s about giving back to those who are less fortunate than us; and, what better way to do that than to bring back a childhood memory, a See-Saw, and ride it for 3 days straight?”
