Brother Richard Rainwater joined the Chapter Celestial on September 27, 2015.
Initiated in 1963, Brother Rainwater would go on to become the 1996 Kappa Sigma Man of The Year making him the fourth of six members from the Tau Chapter at the University of Texas to do so.
He is the second Kappa Sigma Man of the Year the Tau Chapter has lost this month.
Brother Rainwater was a legendary dealmaker and was listed as #211 on Forbes 400 this year. Getting his start managing acquisitions for the Bass family out of Fort Worth, he eventually partnered with former President George W. Bush to purchase the Texas Rangers. But outside of business, Brother Rainwater was a dedicated philanthropist. In 1991, he created the Rainwater Charitable Foundation that focuses on early childhood education and school leadership development.
In 2009, Brother Rainwater was diagnosed with a rare neurodegenerative disease called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). As such, he expanded the Foundation to include the Tau Consortium; a group of top researchers dedicated to finding a cure for PSP.
He was a man whose life afforded an example which some may equal, but none excel. His Foundation will ensure that his work continues to enrich the lives of many. Kappa Sigma would like to take this moment to reflect on Brother Rainwaters’ life and extend our condolences to his family.
