Kappa Sigma Chapters Run to Victory and Raise over $17,000

This past September the Alpha-Beta & Lambda-Xi chapters of Kappa Sigma worked together along with PWGM H. Phillip Bell, IV to raise money for the SEAL Legacy Foundation. The chapters ran a football from Milledgeville, GA to Mercer University’s Five Star Stadium in Macon for their Run to Victory event. Brothers ran the ball in mile increments along the way. The event, which supports Kappa Sigma’s Military Heroes Campaign, raised money for the SEAL Legacy Foundation, an organization which provides support and services to families of wounded and fallen Navy SEALs.
Before the event the members had raised money from family, friends, and local businesses in order to reach their goal of $20,000. So far they have raised over $17,700 with donations still coming in. Mercer University chapter member John Niesen, who spearheaded the event, said it was “fun to be given the opportunity to run the event and it was awesome to see how excited the chapter got to do something great.”
The chapters were able to present their event ball along with a check to Commander Mark McGinnis of the SEAL Legacy Foundation during Mercer’s first home football game.
“I couldn’t think of anything better to give back to than America’s most elite warriors and their families,” said Brother Barrett Stanley, a member from the Georgia College and State University chapter. Barrett went on to say “I believe that the number one goal of a fraternity is not having a good time, but instead, it is teaching the value of giving back.”
Created in 2007, the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign honors and aids thousands of military veterans and their families in communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Since its inception, the campaign has donated over $500,000 to non-profit organizations who advocate on behalf of servicemen and women and those wounded in combat.
