From midday Friday November 18th, through Sunday the 20th, the Beta-Psi Chapter from the University of Washington and the Gamma-Mu Chapter from Washington State University worked together to run a football signed by Coach Peterson (University of Washington Head Coach) relay style from Husky Stadium in Seattle, across the state of Washington, to Martin Stadium in Pullman. The Kappa Sigma chapters of UW and WSU first started doing the Apple Cup Run philanthropy event in 1979. Through the snow of Stevens pass, the heavy winds of Wenatchee, and during the dead of night and at the crack of dawn, these chapters run the game ball nearly 290 miles to raise money for the Military Heroes Campaign. Both chapters spent countless hours fundraising for this event by sharing social media posts, talking to people on campus and at tailgates, and mentioning the philanthropy to friends and family. In total, they raised a combined $8,500 for the Military Heroes. This year marks the first time since 2011 that both chapters have collaborated to bring together this historic philanthropy event, and they hope to continue holding it for many years to come.
Created in 2007, the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign honors and aids thousands of military veterans and their families in communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Since its inception, the campaign has donated over $1,000,000 to non-profit organizations who advocate on behalf of servicemen and women and those wounded in combat.
