Brother James “Jim” T. Morris, a 1962 initiate of the Beta-Theta Chapter at Indiana University and Kappa Sigma’s Man of the Year in 2010, entered the Chapter Celestial today, July 13, 2024, at age 81. Brother Morris was a distinguished business leader, notably serving as President and as Vice Chairman of Pacers Sports and Entertainment from 2014 onwards. 

His extensive career included pivotal roles such as chief of staff to Indianapolis Mayor Richard G. Lugar from 1967 to 1973, President of the Lilly Foundation for 16 years from 1984 to 2002, Chairman and CEO of IWC Resources Corporation and the Indianapolis Water Company for 13 years (1989-2002), Special Envoy for the humanitarian crisis in South Africa, and various other significant positions. 

Brother Jim Morris earned the Man of the Year accolade from Kappa Sigma for his outstanding business and public service achievements. He was a generous supporter of the Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he served in multiple volunteer roles, and held membership at the Gold Scroll level in the McCormick Circle. In 2016, he received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Barack Obama. 

Brother Morris has received many honors including 16 honorary degrees and Indiana University’s Alumni Service Award. He contributed his leadership talents to numerous organizations, serving as a University Trustee and Board Chairman for both Indiana University and Indiana State University. From 2002 to 2007, Morris also worked as the Executive Director for the largest humanitarian agency in the world, United Nations World Food Program. His contributions extended further to the Executive Board of UNICEF, the National Advisory Board for the Boy Scouts of America, as the Treasurer of the United States Olympic Committee, membership on the Board of Governors for the American Red Cross, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He is also the recipient of the George M. Steinbrenner III Sport Leadership Award from  the United States Olympic Endowment.
