Kappa Sigma held its fourth International Day of Service during the weekend of Apr. 4-6, 2014. Undergraduates and alumni throughout the U.S. and Canada volunteered within their local communities with nonprofit organizations benefiting various causes.
Chapters and colonies from around North America organized their own events or volunteered time giving back to local community organizations. The Pi-Chi Chapter at Lake Erie College supported Kappa Sigma’s Military Heroes Campaign by holding their 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast for the Fisher House Foundation, raising over $4,000 through donations and auctions. Bucknell University’s Alpha-Phi Chapter broke into groups by class year to help with multiple causes around their community, including a museum cleanup and a community center cleanup.
The Day of Service is part of Kappa Sigma’s “A Greater Cause” initiative, the international fraternity’s ongoing commitment to promote volunteerism, citizenship and service to the community. Kappa Sigma held the first coordinated International Day of Service for any collegiate social fraternity in October 2012, and has continued each semester since.
