Brother Kyle Carpenter (Chi-Omega, South Carolina, ’13) will receive the Medal of Honor at 2:15 p.m. EDT from President Barack Obama for serving his country and in protection and care for his fellow soldier. Brother Carpenter is a retired Marine Corporal and will receive the highest award given for bravery. He is the third Marine to be awarded the medal since the start of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Brother Carpenter will be recognized with this honor for covering a grenade with his body to save the life of a fellow Marine in 2010. The soldier that he saved was Cpl. Nicholas Eufazio. Both survived the blast of the grenade, but both were badly wounded. Brother Carpenter has had a remarkable recovery and will be decorated for his heroic action.
Kappa Sigma salutes this Brother today. Brother Carpenter is an October 23, 2013 initiate of the Chi-Omega Chapter at the University of South Carolina. Today our hearts are filled with pride for this Patriot.
