On this Founders Day, we celebrate our 147th year as a brotherhood. On December 10th 1869, the Five Friends and Brothers gathered in William Grigsby McCormick’s room at 46 East Lawn on the grounds of the University of Virginia to draft a constitution and establish the Kappa Sigma Fraternity in North America. Adopting the traditions of their Renaissance forbearers at Bologna, these five friends bound themselves together by an oath and preserved their union with secret work. This ritual made them brothers, restoring the luster to the colors long-fading in Europe.
Today, we Kappa Sigmas are still bound together by our oath and secret work of the Order, but our colors no longer fade for want of wearers. We are stronger than ever with 20,000 undergraduate members, over 200,000 living alumni, and representation on over 320 campuses across North America!
Be proud this Founders Day and rejoice in the eternal bond that we all share. Take a moment to watch the Founders Day video.
