Kappa Sigma’s Xi-Xi Chapter looks to break stereotypes with “It’s On Us”
Gilberto Vaquero, Xi-Xi Chapter’s Communications Chair, and the rest of the members of the Xi-Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma at Marquette University have been put into the limelight lately with their support of the “It’s On Us” project. The project is meant to bring awareness to sexual assault on college campuses and also to make a call to action to end it.
The Kappa Sigma brothers decided to come together and make a Facebook photo album of their reasons why they support the movement. The album’s popularity skyrocketed and has been shared all over the internet. Local news stations were quick to run stories on the movement and to highlight the brother’s actions.
Brother Vaquero started the support for this project because he believes that “we are not the stereotype, and we wanted to provide a change in people thinking all fraternities stand for actions like sexual assault.” It really hit home with him when a Marquette sorority member reached out to thank Xi-Xi for standing against something that she has personally dealt with. The chapter has been overwhelmed by the positive impact the photos have had and could not be happier that people are associating the chapter and Kappa Sigma with the movement.
“This pledge is a personal commitment to help keep women and men safe from sexual assault. It is a promise not to be a bystander to the problem, but to be a part of the solution.”
